You overindulged during the holidays, now what?



The sun was out, the ambiance was right and the excitement of the festivities may have led to eating one too many treats, and now you’re left to deal with the aftershock. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We totally understand.  The good news is that you don’t have to continue feeling like this. It’s never too late to return to your normal healthy, energetic self. Here are a few tips to help you get back on track.  

Move!
The importance of exercise cannot be stressed enough. Start small, take the stairs instead of the lift, or park your car further from your office entrance so that you can walk those few extra steps.

Stock up on healthy food
Make sure you have healthy food on hand at all times so that you can reduce the chances of having to buy takeaways or unhealthy snacks. Instead of snacking on potato chips, try nuts or biltong as a healthier alternative. Replace fried foods with baked, grilled or steamed food.

Re-hydrate
We know it’s not easy to drink water, but it is very important for your health. Water hydrates your body and flushes out toxins. Research has shown that staying hydrated can also improve your mood, helping you to feel great. Aim to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Try using a 1 litre bottle so that you only have to refill it twice in a day.

Go to bed early
Now that you’re back from the holiday, it’s time to catch up on that much-needed sleep to help you on your way to resume your day-to-day duties. Aim to sleep for no less than 7 hours a night.
