Keeping busy and upbeat during a lockdown can be hard. Sure, sitting on the couch, watching TV all day is great, but how much more of it can you take? We’ve put together a list of great ideas to try this weekend whether you’re living alone, with kids or with grown-up family members/friends.
For those living alone
– Hang out with family and friends online
Set up a video call afternoon date with friends and family – the more, the merrier. Make sure you’re all free for that period and remember to bring snacks.
– Home improvement
Maybe it’s time to check-off items from that “things to fix around the house” list. You’ll thank yourself later.
– Learn a new skill
It doesn’t have to be related to your career. Try baking or cooking your favourite dish. Don’t forget to take lots of pictures for your social media pages.
For those living with kids
– Put on a show
Inform the kids that there will be a talent show on Sunday, and they must spend their free time on Saturday preparing their performances or artwork for display. Check-in with them to coach them as they prepare so that they don’t get bored, and enjoy the show on Sunday afternoon.
– Let them do some chores
Teach them to do specific tasks around the house to keep busy. It can be as easy as them packing away their own toys, polishing everyone’s shoes, bringing dishes to the kitchen after meals or sorting cutlery.
– Allow for some edutainment

For the whole family
– “Invite” the whole family for dinner
Send the family members you live with you an invite to a formal family dinner where everyone must be present. Ask them to dress up as they would if you were going out for dinner. Prepare special dishes you usually enjoy together when you go out and enjoy.
– Walk a mile in their shoes
You don’t have to swap lives completely. You can do small things like listening to each other’s daily playlists, favourite podcasts, or swapping house chores for a day.
– Movie marathon
Ask each family member –young and old to choose a movie they would like you all to watch. Bring snacks and enjoy the movie marathon. Everyone must participate.
