How often do you make a conscious effort to practice good gym hygiene habits? With the Covid-19 pandemic still a reality, paying attention to hygiene safety at the gym should always be top of mind. Here are some useful hygiene safety tips to add to your gym routine.
Keep your hands clean
You might think it’s obvious, but you’ve probably come across one or two people who have questionable hygiene habits. Wash your hands properly with soap and water, or use a sanitiser.
Tip: Wash your hands before and after your session to minimise the spread of germs. Likewise, wash them before you do anything when you get home.
Listen to your body
If you are coughing and sneezing, or have any other contagious sickness, stay home. Besides obviously minimising the chances of spreading the sickness to other gym patrons, you shouldn’t push yourself too hard when you are not well.
Tip: Cover any cuts or wounds with a waterproof plaster to avoid worsening or spreading the infection.
Look out for yourself
Yes, gym staff must maintain a clean environment, but you must also take responsibility for your health. Carry a sanitiser and sanitise equipment before and after using it. If you take your mat or equipment to the gym, wash them regularly.
Tip: Wear non-slip flip flops or rubber sandals when you shower, and even after your shower to avoid getting fungal infections.
