The Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is in full swing, and we have a sneaky suspicion that you are having the time of your life. Here are some top tips to help you enjoy the festivities even more as temperatures drop in the early mornings and late afternoons.

For the participants

Layer up!

Start with a close-fitting later made of absorbent material that can absorb the moisture and lessen the evaporative cooling effect brought by sweating. Next, add an insulating layer that is slightly looser than the first layer so that it can trap air near the skin to be warmed up by your body and remain there to keep you warm. Then add an outer layer of waterproof material to shield you from outside elements.

Extend your warm-up time
It is important to warm-up throughout the year, but it is particularly important in winter as cold weather conditions can have a constricting effect on vessels and arteries, which can limit blood flow in the areas that need it. Warming up longer can help give tissues enough time to receive sufficient blood flow before you engage in your main activity.

For the festival goers

– Walk as much as possible, not only will that warm you up, but if you’re a Multiply member and are wearing your activity tracking device, you’ll earn Active Dayz™ if you walk 10 000 in a day.

– Warm-up with oysters paired with Heinz’s range of hot sauces at the Heinz Hot Sauce Oyster hot spots. Some of the hot sauces contain chili, which is high in capsaicin. Capsaicin is known to cause a thermogenic reaction in your body.

– Always take an extra jacket/windbreaker even when it is not cold when you leave the house in the morning.
