Spring-cleaning is not only good for your home and your health – it can also save you money. As you clear out the clutter in your house and get organised, there are opportunities to get financially savvy as well.
• Sell the stuff you don’t use anymore
Get rid of clutter and clean out your cupboards. If you haven’t used an item in the past year and don’t have an immediate need for it, sell it! Advertise the items you want to sell on your neighbourhood Facebook group or online marketplace websites.
• Repurpose and upcycle
Bored with a room? Give the furniture or walls a quick coat of paint. Move lampshades, artwork and plants around and the room will look like new.
• Find hidden treasures
There’s a possibility that a world of fabulous clothing and household items are hidden in Narnia at the very back of your cupboards. Take out everything from your cupboards and sort them into two piles: items you can use or re-purpose and items to sell.
• Keep busy
Spring-cleaning can keep you busy for the whole weekend, depending on the size of your house and how deep you clean. Make it a family activity by dividing and assigning tasks to everyone. This means less mall time and less spending. And as a reward for all the hard work, get pizza delivered and watch a good movie in your now spick and span home.
