As it gets colder, it gets harder to exercise. The benefits of exercise are undeniable and if you break your stride now, it gets harder to start again. Here are 5 easy, and not so easy, ways to get your heart pumping.
1. Take a brisk walk around the block
There is nothing like a walk to clear the mind and let go of the day’s stress. Walking is a great low-impact way to get the blood pumping and your muscles working.
2. Hit the road
If you’re up to it, go for a jog. Running for 30 minutes can burn up to 500 calories, depending on your level of fitness.
3. Do some HIIT training
You can do this anywhere. High intensity interval training uses high bursts of energy over shorter periods of time. For example, do an exercise for 45 seconds and rest for 15 seconds, repeating this for a set amount of time.
Exercises to try:
- Burpees
- Jump squats
- Jumping jacks
- Sprints
- Mountain climbers
4. Have a dance party
Put on your favourite tunes and dance in the living room. Invite the rest of the family to join in the fun. And the more you dance, the more calories you’ll burn.
5. Play with the kids
Enjoy some quality time and fresh air with the kids by going outside and kicking a ball or playing touchers.
