We’re all going through tough times, so a little kindness can go a long way. And as it turns out, doing something good for someone makes you feel good too.
Giving makes you happy
You may experience a sense of increased wellbeing when you do something for someone else. Studies have shown that this heightened sense of happiness may be because of the social connections you make by helping or volunteering, and it could also be due to a sense of reward in your brain.
Giving gives you a purpose
Helping others gives you a sense of purpose. It creates determination and intention. You will also feel as if you have achieved something. Empowering others may in turn make you feel empowered.
Giving puts things in perspective
We all go through hardships and struggles at some point. When you help someone in a different situation than yours, it can put things in perspective and even make you feel more positive about your own situation.
Giving is contagious (but in a good way)
People are inspired when they see people help others and this can encourage them to do the same.
Giving is a virtuous cycle
Giving makes you happier and the happier you are, the more likely you are to give. It is important though, to maintain a balance. Giving becomes stressful when you are burdened, or you are doing it at the cost of your own wellbeing.
